Evolution of
Cryptographic Methods:
Understanding the Mathematics
by: Joseph Smith
Abstract: Time has proven that cryptography has become a more prominent aspect of security. The progression of time has also seen changes in the encryption and decryption processes. Using computer-based tools, this project explores different cryptographic methods mathematically, showing how easily these codes can be broken and demonstrating the need for stronger security. RSA and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) have become two of the more effective cryptographic methods. Analyzing these two methods show that ECC, even using smaller key sizes, provides the same level of security as RSA. This final conclusion will be accompanied with a discussion on the need for security.
